Strong defensive effort thwarted by late touchdowns in 14-0 St. Patrick win

St. Patrick's engineered a long drive in the third quarter and forced Saint Mary/St. Aloysius into four second half three-and-outs to fend off the Monarchs, 14-0 in the 2017 7-8 Grade Toy Bowl. The Monarchs had a tough time with the stingy Celtics defense, but had several highlights of their own on the day. The loss doesn't deter from an outstanding football season for SMA/St. Al's as they returned to the Toy Bowl for the first time since 2013.

Adam Boone picked off the St. Pat's quarterback on one drive and the defense came up with a huge goal line stand to end the second quarter, keeping the score tied at 0-0 at the half.

But it was a grind-it-out game and the St. Patrick's offense had a little more luck penetrating SMA's D. The game was 6-0 until the last minutes when St. Patrick faked a field goal on fourth down. The kicker found an open receiver in the end zone and added a PAT to make the final appear to be wider margin than the game story told.
